A History of Cutting Edge Innovation

Founded in 1880 as Benjamin F. Kelley & Company, PK has evolved over the years, continually adapting and changing to lead the marketplace. In fact, the company’s very first product, feed water heaters, introduced pioneering technology with “U” tube bundles. Following the death of its founder, the Kelley Company merged in 1917 with his son-in-law’s organization, Frank L. Patterson & Company. After World War II the business focus shifted from storage water heaters to more complicated, customer-engineered heat exchangers and other commercial and industrial products. R&D within PK’s Chemical Process Division led the company into the development of blending equipment in the 1950’s. PK introduced a major innovation, the V-shaped Twin Shell® Blender, setting a new industry standard for precise, uniform blending.

Following its 1974 acquisition by Harsco Corporation, PK continued to lead the marketplace. In 1987 we entered the gas-fired commercial boiler industry, developing new cutting edge products that solve customers’ problems, including most recently, the industry’s first all purpose boiler, the MACH® Series boiler which is helping PK’s customers reduce their fuel bills by as much as 80%.
